Frame Tester

The instrument is designed to accommodate a wide range of frame styles and sizes.

Its function is to simulate the forces, which exert tensions on the side-arms, hinge blocks and nasal bridge welds of metal frames when repeatedly removing a framed pair of spectacles from the face.

The principle is to affix one arm of a pair of framed lenses by a clamp which is attached to a reciprocating lever which can be set to produce movements of 30mm up and down of the base setting for a pair of spectacles and 60mm out, relative to the normal 'at rest' position on a face. In effect, when set in motion, the action is to oscillate one arm up, down and outwards by the radius set on the reciprocating lever. NOTE - The OTI instrument allows a radius setting range of amplitude range setting of 20mm-50mm.

The OTI Frame Tester can be set to a variety of oscillating radii and no. Of cycles to simulate a perceived 'life test' OF A FRAMED PRODUCT. Additional benefits are to determine agreed frame strength conditions and highlight potential design weaknesses of frame designs, particularly those that may have metal welds or unusual hinge block constructions.
